WHAT ARE YOU PLANTING?

WHAT ARE YOU PLANTING?

By Sandi Dennis

As the weather starts to change and we experience the first touches of Spring, it also is a time to start planting seeds. My friend Sandi Dennis wrote this devotional that I thought was filled with biblical truth for our everyday lives. She has graciously consented to allow me to share it.

What kinds of seeds are you planting? You might think, “I’m not a farmer. I’m not planting seeds.” But indeed, you are. With your words you’re planting seeds, and you can expect a harvest.

The Bible says: A man reaps the results of all his words—good or bad (Proverbs 12:14 Moffatt translation).

In the natural, nothing can come from corn but corn. So the words you spoke yesterday made your life what it is today. Your words are your construction crew, and you’re building your life by what you say. There will be a harvest from your words.

I remember telling my children a story when they were little. It was about a young boy who was assigned the chore of planting a bucket of seeds. He had explicit instructions of how they were to be planted. He was to plant them in rows—a few seeds in each hole, several inches apart. The boy started planting the seeds the way he was told. But after a short time, he got tired and decided to dump the bucket of seeds. He would be done and that would be the end of it.

It never occurred to him until later that there would be a harvest of what he planted. And it would be in full view for all to see! He was reminded of the Bible verse: As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest…will never cease (Genesis 8:22 NKJV)

So, what kind of “word seeds” are you going to plant? Remember, sow wisely for there will be a harvest.

The tongue has the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21 NIV)

The fruit we wish to pick tomorrow lies hidden in the seed of today. (Ralph Johnson)

The words “I am…” are potent words; be careful what you hitch them to. The thing you’re claiming has a way of reaching back and claiming you. (A.L. Kitselman)

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help us by Your grace to continually meditate on Your word daily so we can speak Your truths into our lives on a continuous basis. May we be mindful of the words we speak and remember to speak only words that bring life so we can bring forth a harvest of blessings to Your glory.
