OVERCOMING GIANTS

OVERCOMING GIANTS

Last week, I was a teacher at a kid’s camp. It was a week filled with lots of adventure!! We did a collage about who we are in Christ, worshipped with flags, and took out giants in order to go into the promised land.

Saturday after I got back, I went to a prayer room I attend regularly, and the song the worship leader sung was about overcoming the giants. I then picked up my devotional a couple days ago, and the reading of the day was about overcoming giants. Hmmm...do you think the Holy Spirit was, maybe, wanting to share with me some insights about overcoming giants? I think so!

But, what are the giants? Oh, there are many!!! The good news is that the word of God says I am an overcomer, and I am a conqueror through Christ Jesus my Lord!!

However, some days, it seems like the giants are bigger and more powerful than me. No matter which way I turn, they are breathing their stinky breath in my face. And what do they try and bring me? Fear, intimidation, conflict, delay, and a plethora of other bad things! They shout at you that you cannot do what God has told you to do, that it is too hard to be obedient, yada, yada, yada...you get the point!

One thing that I am learning, even at an older age, is to not look at the giants. They don’t deserve my attention! Joshua and Caleb had seen the promised land and the giants, yet they had an overcoming spirit that said, "We are able to defeat them!" And they did defeat them and go into the promised land, despite the 40-year delay caused by the others’ unbelief! These two men had faith that God was greater, and they did not let unbelief determine their destiny.

It’s easy to stop and retreat instead of going forward to finish the assignment God has called us to do. Jesus could have stopped and retreated before He went to the cross, but He completed His assignment of gaining full and total victory for us. And because He did, we now have access to eternal life forever with Him! Not only that, but He has already defeated our giants! We have only to believe and let Him fight for us and with us, so they retain no power whatsoever!!

What a beautiful victory He obtained for us! He defeated death and holds the keys to the kingdom. He has also given us all authority over our enemies (1 Corinthians 15:57).

I love the Scripture that says: Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord (Exodus 14:13).

When we have done all that we can do, we continue to stand, fully arrayed in the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10–18). We know our weapons are not carnal, but mighty for bringing down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). Where are the strongholds? In our minds!! So, we are to cast down vain imaginations and anything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5).

I am sure Joshua and Caleb had to do that, especially since everyone else made the giants bigger than their God. We are in a battle, and the enemy of our souls does not retreat easily. Every day, we must use the word of God as a powerful weapon to slay our giants. And remember, His words never return void (Isaiah 55:11).

The final victory is the promised land flowing with milk and honey. I believe the ultimate promise land is forever being in the Lord’s presence with nothing separating us from His complete and total love. In the meantime, our enemies are food for us. As we overcome, we are getting stronger in the Lord and the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10).

An easy life does not produce the same fruit as that of a strong person who has faced many challenges and knows that their God is more than able to bring them through (Romans 5:3–4).

So, I encourage you today, don’t give your giants any room and say to your giants, just as the children did in the class I taught, "I am not afraid, for the Lord my God goes with me wherever I go…" (Joshua 1:9.)

Yes, indeed He is with us everywhere we go. We have the victory and will possess our promised land. Just keep the faith and BELIEVE!

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for providing everything we need to overcome all the giants in our lives. Thank You for making us more than overcomers and providing us our weapons of warfare. May we have an overcoming mindset filled with faith in You. Help us to continue to keep our eyes on You and not on the giants in the land. Enable us to continue to rest in the finished work of the cross, knowing we have been given the victory and eternal life through You.
