Yesterday, in my quiet time with the Lord, I was reading one of His promises about hope in Lamentation 3:25. And I was reminded of how many times I have said to myself, or heard others say, I hope that such and such will happen. I decided to dive in a bit deeper into that scripture to understand the meaning of hope more fully.

Through my search, I became very encouraged about what hope means in my life as a believer. Many people in the world believe that what they hope for will just somehow happen without putting their faith in Jesus Christ or having an intimate relationship with Him. That is what the Bible calls sinking sand. (Matthew 7:26.)

Whereas as believers in Jesus Christ, when we put our hope in Him, it becomes an anchor for our soul, firm and secure. (Hebrews 6:19.) We serve a God who cannot lie, and Who is totally and completely faithful in fulfilling His promises. (Hebrewes 6:18.)

The Bible says that, Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen (Hebrews 11:1, KJV). So, faith and hope are joined together. We have faith in God based on His word, and we are steadfast in our hearts that what we hope for, He is faithful to bring into our physical reality.

He is amazing and beautiful. I, for one, am going to activate my faith with hope at a much higher level of enthusiasm. He says in His word we have not because we ask not. (James 4:2.). Hmm… Perhaps we are not asking Him for enough, not for our own selfish gain but for incredible things for His kingdom and spiritual advancements for His glory. (James 4:3.)

The Bible also says, Hope deferred makes the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12, NKJV). Why? Because in our hearts we give up and allow circumstances to shake our faith, leading us to agree with lies that contradict the truth of Gods word and His faithfulness. We are then like a ship on stormy seas without an anchor. Not a good place to be!!

Sometimes, what we are believing for may take years to come to pass, and perhaps we may not get the opportunity to see it on this side of heaven. (Hebrews 11:13.) Still, we can be confident that what He promises will surely come to pass and be fulfilled in His perfect timing and with perfect execution according to His will and plan. (Isaiah 55:11; Joshua 21:45.)

So today, I encourage you to hold unto your hope and remain secure and safe in the harbor of His love.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You that You are always good! Your word reminds me in Romans 8:28 that You turn everything around for good to those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. Thank You that I can rest securely in Your love and place my hope fully in You! Help me to be steadfast in my heart, always aware and present to the reality that those who put their hope in You will never be disappointed. (Romans 9:33.) When I go through challenging times and the enemy attacks my hope with fear, despair, doubt, and uncertainty, may I resist him and continue to let hope remain the anchor for my soul, firm and secure. (Hebrews 6:17–19.) Thank You that You are my refuge and shield when I put my hope in You as the Living Word! (Psalm 119:114.)
