THE BEAUTY OF HIS NAMES

|Susan K. Lange
THE BEAUTY OF HIS NAMES

Throughout my journey with the Lord Jesus Christ, I have reflected on and studied His many names. For in His name, I find different aspects of His character and power, and I gain a deeper intimacy with the understanding of His covenant relationship, not only with me but with mankind.

In the Bible, God introduces Himself with specific names that describe His attributes and roles. I have found comfort, guidance, and assurance of His love in His beautiful names. It helps me to call Him specifically when I pray.

In Hebrew and other ancient languages, names did not just serve as identifiers but memorials of character, reputation and divine action. According to www.gospelmount.org: It may carry family memory, a prayer from parents, or a role a person plays in God’s story.

Isaiah 43:1 (KJV) says: But now thus says the Lord, who formed you, O Jacob, He who formed you, I have called you by name, you are mine.

This verse reveals that God not only knows our name but lets us know that He created us, formed us, redeemed us, and declares that we belong to Him. What may start out as wonderment about His name can lead us straight to His heart!

I love the scripture found in Song of Solomon 1:3 (KJV) which says: Because of the savour of thy good ointments, thy name is an ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

As ointment poured forth is a beautiful picture to me of His love and all that it contains being poured out on me as I call upon Him through His names.

I encourage you to study His holy and beautiful names for yourself. This lifelong journey of studying His names is well worth the time and effort, leading to a deeper and richer walk of love with our glorious King.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today, I bring my heart before You in adoration and love for who You are. Let Your name be like a beautiful ointment poured over me as I study Your Word. Please deepen my revelation of and intimacy with You as I meditate on the meaning of Your names. Thank You for being my glorious, all-knowing Savior and Redeemer, who knows me by name. I rejoice that You have redeemed me and that I belong to You!
