CREATIVE MESS & DIVINE ORDER

|Susan K. Lange
CREATIVE MESS & DIVINE ORDER

Today I was in my studio sorting through all my supplies. And, oh my, that’s a job in and of itself. There is paper, yarn, envelopes, labels, beads, paint…an endless supply. I thought I was doing a good job just getting the items in a labeled box. However, after a while I couldn’t tell you what specific items were in each box. Not knowing specifically what is in the box makes it a whole lot harder to find just what you need when you need it. You can have a whole lot of envelopes in one box but sorting through them can still be quite a chore. It can also lead me to just buy more because I am not sure I have the right one for the job or for my newest creation.

Arts and crafts supplies are like treasures to me. I love, love, love to acquire them because in my mind I can always come up with a creative idea of some way I can use them. So, I am painstakingly sorting them out, labeling them and writing an inventory list. But, how long will this list last? That is a good question. Because when I start designing, the messy process begins again, and it’s almost impossible to return everything to its proper place. And yet, somehow sorting and organizing helps soothe my soul.

So where am I going with all this? In my life I am always looking for ways the Lord might be speaking to me because if we listen, He is always speaking. So, I figure this is a pattern I live: the tension between having order and enjoying my creative messy process. Some of the lessons and victories God has taught me in my life have come from learning order and some through operating in a creative mess. I probably will always be experiencing these two; it’s just how I roll.

How about you? Do you crave order yet contend with creating mess through the journey of life? And because of that, do you wonder what the end results will look like? Not to worry; God knows just how to keep us in divine alignment. It may come through a creative mess or having everything in perfect order but ultimately the good work He has begun in us He is faithful to complete (Phil. 1:6). I find great comfort in the fact that He knows me better than I know myself and that He is always perfecting that which concerns me (Ps. 138:8). So, I will organize and sort and keep creating because with Him there is joy in the process and in the journey.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your faithfulness and love…I am so grateful that You promise in Your word that the good work You began in me You are faithful to complete (Phil. 1:6) and that You perfect that which concerns me in every area of my life (Ps. 138:8). As I come before You, I pray that You will provide the grace I need to align with Your divine order in all areas of my life. I thank You for Your peace as I agree with Your will and plan. Thank You for showing me how to embrace a new level of creativity and to operate in a wisdom and joy that blesses me and others as I live and participate in Your kingdom of love and rulership.
