As I grow older, I am more mindful of taking on certain activities that seem more and more challenging as the years go by. For many years I was single and lived by myself, and I had to take on the challenges of home repair, mowing grass, and moving to multiple different locations, just to name a few. There were times I found myself teetering on a ladder or moving a king size bed by myself from one room to the other. Let me tell you, some doorways are too narrow for that harrowing act!
I found myself continually calling on the Lord for strength, wisdom and divine angelic help, and I continue doing that to this day. I have to say that each time, He did provide just that, and I was able to get the jobs done. I was, and am, continually grateful for the help He provides me.
Today, I was sitting in my chair after a challenging night that offered little sleep and was silently praying for the Lord’s strength to finish my tasks around the house. I went to the Bible to look up scriptures to encourage myself and these are some of the scriptures on strength that I found:
- 2 Samuel 22:33 (NIV). “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” It’s encouraging to know God’s strength is both protection and provision to move forward.
- 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NIV). “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.” God's supply of strength is inexhaustible. We can depend on His strength continually in our daily walk. We can also find true spiritual strength through our intimacy with Him and endurance in life as we consistently commune with Him.
- Psalm 18:1–2a (NIV). “I love you Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer." David declares His love for the Lord and how He is His strength. He then states that God is His rock, fortress and deliverer. He is painting a picture of the truth that God’s strength is immovable and secure.
These are just 3 of many, many scriptures we can find throughout the Bible about how God is our strength. When we respond with faith and believe His word is true, we will experience His provision for all we need.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Your faithfulness in providing us with Your strength. Help us to depend on You not only as our strength but as our rock, fortress and deliverer. We look to You as our provider, in every way, instead of depending on our own strength. We thank You that as we put our hope in You we will renew our strength and power; we can lift our wings and mount up as eagles; we shall run and not be weary; we will walk and not faint or become tired (see Isaiah 40:31).
