HOW DID WE GET HERE? What sustained us thru all the trials and tumult with a constitution that John Adams said was only suitable for a holy and righteous God-fearing people?

So, we may ask what drove us to continue as a nation and contributed to our overcoming perseverance? Throughout our history there were imperfect men, raised up much like Esthers to meet the demand of the times, along with the prayers of the saints who cried out to Him for divine intervention.

God continually intervenes in the affairs of men (see Matthew 6:10). He does all of this as we live in His beautiful creation, which we can take no credit for and barely even steward without His divine assistance! We are a needy lot, but that is by His design so that we may cast our dependence on Him and hope to find Him in our surrender (see Romans 5:5). It’s our hope in Him that sustains us and our nation.

It has been a huge endeavor, and without a proven track record to depend on, it could be called a great experiment. We, as a people under no other King but Jesus, have taken on the role to govern ourselves. And what is the very first order of government that God established? Self-government.

This is where I find it comes down to a personal basis. We all have a role to play in this great collective of those who live and are called to this nation. And we have an even greater role as believers in Jesus Christ who are called to rule and reign in a greater Kingdom, the kingdom of God, which is established for His purpose and pleasure. We are invited to partake of this Kingdom as we acknowledge the sacrifice that Jesus paid for us on the cross.

Many times, we may feel small and insignificant, thinking our contributions may be amounting to very little. However, to fulfill this destiny, we must remember who He says we are in His word and trust Him to lead us by His Spirit. Every aspect of our lives is ministry unto Him and others. We serve as ambassadors for Him through self-government in our nation and in the greater Kingdom of God (see 2 Corinthians 5:20). We partner with God to establish His will through implementing His word and interceding for His kingdom to be established on the earth. We can then stand in confidence that His word does not return void and that when we pray according to His will it will be done (see Isaiah 55:11 & 1 John 5:14).

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for our Nation. Thank You for leading us and guiding us for the last 250 years. We are privileged and honored to be able to serve You and reign with You in this life and throughout all eternity. Thank You that our nation was established under Your leadership for the people and by the people (i.e. self-government). May we do it with reverence and awe of You, continuing to yield to You in all our ways as we stand as ambassadors for Your kingdom and establishing Your principles on earth as it is in heaven.
